About VARDØ
Inspired by the Vardø witch trials of the 1600’s, Vardø opens in a dirt cell where four women await execution. Four become five when their accuser finds herself awaiting the same fate.
Developmental History
Vardø was first performed at The Open Hydrant Short Play Festival in May of 2025. The production was directed by Maggie Dunn. The cast featured Nicole LeBlanc, Sabira Mohktar, Katerina Pappas, Ava Resco, and Vianca Perez.
Vardø was performed again in October of 2025, as part of FRIGID Theatre’s Days of the Dead Festival. The production was directed by Maggie Dunn. The cast featured Nicole LeBlanc, Sabira Mohktar, Katerina Pappas, Ava Resco, and Sara Moinuddin.
Most recently, ALAB Theater Festival commissioned a 30 minute version of Vardø. This version of the piece was performed in June of 2026 and was directed by Maggie Dunn, with movement direction by Manatsu Tanaka. The cats featured Nicole LeBlanc, Sabira Mokhtar, Katerina Pappas, Vianca Perez, and Sara Moinnuddin. This production featured lighting design by Samantha Weiser.
